Upper limb

Shoulder pain physiotherapy in south London, Kent and Essex

Shoulder pain can make pressing, pulling, sleeping and even getting dressed difficult. Most shoulder problems respond very well to a targeted strengthening plan. I find out which movements are aggravating it and build the shoulder back up step by step.

Common problems I see

  • Pain pressing overhead or benching
  • Rotator cuff tendon pain and strains
  • Frozen shoulder and stiffness that limits reaching
  • Pain lying on the shoulder at night
  • Recurring instability or a history of dislocation

How I help

  • Assessment of shoulder, neck and upper back movement
  • Identifying the tissues and movements involved
  • Exercise modifications so you can keep training
  • Progressive rotator cuff and shoulder blade strengthening
  • A clear return to lifting or sport plan

When to get urgent help

Seek urgent advice if shoulder pain comes with chest pain, shortness of breath, a fever, or if you cannot lift the arm at all after a fall or injury.

Questions about shoulder pain

How long does shoulder pain take to settle?

Many tendon problems improve within six to twelve weeks of consistent rehab. Frozen shoulder can take longer, and I will be clear with you about timelines.

Can I still go to the gym?

Usually yes. We adjust grip, range or exercise choice so you can keep training around it.

Do I need an injection?

Exercise is the first line treatment for most shoulder pain. If you are not progressing, I can discuss onward referral with you.
