Hip and pelvis
Hip and groin pain physiotherapy in south London, Kent and Essex
Hip and groin pain is common in football, running and lifting, and it often lingers when it is not managed properly. My work in professional football means I see these injuries every week and know how to get people back to full speed.
Common problems I see
- Adductor and groin strains
- Hip flexor pain when kicking or sprinting
- Pain on the outside of the hip when walking or lying on your side
- Stiff, achy hips that limit squatting
- Groin pain that keeps returning after football
How I help
- Assessment of hip strength, range and control
- Specific adductor and hip strength testing
- A graded plan from walking to running, cutting and kicking
- Advice on managing training load in season
- Strength targets to reduce the chance of it coming back
When to get urgent help
Seek urgent medical advice if you cannot take weight after a fall, have severe hip pain with a fever, or a child or teenager develops a new limp or knee pain without a clear cause.
Questions about hip and groin pain
Why does my groin pain keep coming back?
Usually because strength has not been rebuilt to match the demands of the sport. Testing adductor strength gives us a clear target before you return.
Can I keep playing football?
Sometimes, with changes to training load. It depends on how irritable the injury is, which we assess together.
Is hip pain in my thirties normal?
Hip pain is common at any age and usually treatable with the right exercise. An assessment helps rule out anything that needs a different approach.
